GFESS Athlete of the Month Winners- November & December

by Unknown | Jan 22, 2026

The winter sports season is alive and well at GFESS. In order to appreciate the work of the school’s athletes, GFESS’s Athletic Council chooses one athlete of each gender to be recognized as Athletes of the Month. They evaluate based on a variety of things, including work ethic, coachability, and performance. Here are the winners for November and December!

The male Athlete of the Month for November was Levin Trichew. Trichew is a grade ten student as GFESS, who is the middle blocker on the Junior Volleyball Team. In addition to volleyball, he also participates in badminton, pickleball, tennis, track and field, and is a member of Gryphon Guides and Student Council. His Coach, Mr. Delaat, mentioned that his “passion for the sport was evident in every play, and his ability to lead by example strengthened team unity.” Trichew himself has said he enjoys the team aspect of volleyball, as does his favorite player, Aleksander Nikolov.

The other winner was a grade ten as well: Izzy Perez. As the point guard of the Junior Basketball Team, she “brings relentless tenacity to the court, igniting her team with nonstop energy,” according to her coach, Miss Borich. Perez likes the competitiveness found in sports, of which she also plays badminton and volleyball. When asked to describe herself in one word, she said she was “resilient”, as she is someone that will never shy away from pressure situations. She actually loves the challenge of it. In the future, she wants to continue on with basketball, or possibly go into political science and become a lawyer.

As for December, Nire Adesina was the male award winner. He is another basketball player, however his position is forward. Adesina wears jersey #8, with his hype song being No Face by Drake. “ He has shown strong commitment to the team with great effort, positive leadership, and a willingness to improve,” says his coach, Mr. Adamek. He especially demonstrated this during the team’s game at Centennial, where he dominated the boards both on the offensive and defensive end. In school, he also does track, cross country, and is a member of the Athletic Council. Outside of school, he plays for the Pelham Panthers, where his team was crowned the Division 5 OBA Champions last year.

Finally is the female Athlete of the Month for December, Jade Muma. “Jade is a true leader on the Senior Girls Volleyball Team” and “she works hard and can always be relied on in pressure situations on the court,” said Coach Galas. One of many examples of her ability is when she had 3 blocks in a row during GFESSs’ game against Centennial. Aside from volleyball, Muma is passionate about Soccer. Her favourite team is the Canada Women’s Soccer Team, and Muma plays for the Port Colborne Storm. Even more, she aspires to pursue a career in soccer or alternatively become a sports physiotherapist.
