CUPE Negotiations Update - November 1, 2022

by User Not Found | Nov 02, 2022

CUPE (the Canadian Union of Public Employees) gave official notice over the weekend that they may take strike action this Friday, November 4, 2022. In response, the Ministry of Education announced they would be introducing legislation to prevent CUPE strike action from occurring. Negotiations are continuing this week between CUPE and the province, meaning that circumstances are evolving rapidly and are subject to change throughout the week.

If a provincial settlement is not reached, CUPE has announced they still plan to initiate a withdrawal of services on Friday, November 4, meaning that CUPE members are planning not to attend work this Friday. If this happens, the DSBN will be closing all elementary and secondary schools to students on this day. Without CUPE staff members in the school it is not possible to maintain a safe environment for students, and student safety is always our top priority.

Please note that all non-CUPE staff will still be required to attend their work location on Friday, November 4. Teachers will not be asked to deliver remote learning.

We will continue keeping you up to date with new information as we receive it. We will also continue to post the updates on the DSBN’s website here and our social media channels as well, including TwitterFacebook and Instagram.
