Arih

Greater Fort Erie Secondary School culinary student Bailey Arih is heating things up in the kitchen. She has competed in the District School Board of Niagara Skills Competition for the past three years, but this year she moves onto the next level of competition with the hope of returning home with a gold medal.

The DSBN Skills Competition was held at Niagara College’s campuses in Welland and Niagara-on-the-Lake on Feb. 28 and saw students from 17 Niagara schools compete in over 25 challenges.

These challenges demonstrated students’ skills in everything from automotive tech, to computer coding and advanced manufacturing to hairstyling, to baking and culinary arts.

She will represent the DSBN at the Skills Ontario Provincial Finals, which will be held May 6 to 8. The competition is Canada’s largest skilled trade and technology competition.

Gold medalists at the provincial level will become part of Team Ontario and will advance to the Skills National Finals held this year in Edmonton.
